Hey, Renton: Score FREE transit this summer!
Choose a better way to get around this summer, especially when going to Seattle! We challenge you to flip at least one drive-alone car trip each week this summer. You can use transit, carpool, join a vanpool, bike, walk, or roll.
Need a transit pass?
We’ve got you covered! We’re offering qualified participants who take the pledge a FREE pre-paid ORCA card for unlimited transit rides, valid through August 31, 2026 (while supplies last).
Ready? Take the pledge to flip your trip and claim your ORCA card below!
Check out the information below to sail past Seattle traffic and make getting to and from Renton a breeze.
If you live far from transit, consider starting your transit trip from a park and ride. Find more detailed information, such as transit near each park and ride here.
What is Flip Your Trip?
Flip Your Trip is a program by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to encourage and support the use of transit, ridesharing, walking, biking, and scooting. Learn more about transportation options at FlipYourTrip.org.
Who is eligible to take the pledge?
Anyone can pledge to flip their trip! And if everyone did, even just once per week, it would make a difference! So, get on board, flip your trip, and sail past traffic via walking, rolling, bus, bike, train, scooter, vanpool, carpool, ORCA pod…
Who is eligible for the free ORCA card?
People who meet the following criteria are eligible to receive a pre-paid ORCA card:
· 19 years of age or older
· Currently drive alone to or from downtown Seattle at least 1 time per week
· Not currently receiving employer-paid ORCA support
· Did not receive a free ORCA card from either the Summer 2025 or the Spring 2026 Flip Your Trip campaign
When will I receive the ORCA card?
The first batch of ORCA cards will be mailed the week of June 1st. Please allow up to 7 days for mailing. If you sign up after June 1st, you should expect to receive your ORCA card in the mail within 7 business days.
Where can I use the ORCA card?
So. Many. Places! The ORCA card can be used to ride the bus on King County Metro, Sound Transit, Pierce Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, and Kitsap Transit. Prefer to ride the rails? Your pass will work on Link light rail, the Sounder train, Seattle Streetcar and the Seattle Center Monorail. You can also use on-demand transit services including King County Metro Flex, Community Transit Zip Shuttle, the Pierce Transit Runner and Kitsap Transit On-Demand Shuttle. For water lovers, you can set sail on the King County Water Taxi, and Kitsap Transit Foot and Fast Ferry.
Are there funds on the ORCA card?
Your card is pre-loaded with an unlimited pass that is valid until August 31, 2026. There is no e-purse (cash) value on the card. (Note: If you register your card at MyORCA.com, you will not see the pass on the card, but we assure you it’s there!)
I tapped my card on an ORCA reader, and it showed a different expiration date. What should I do?
When you tap your new card, it may initially show a different expiration date than August 31, 2026. There may be a delay in the pass showing up on the reader, but your unlimited pass is still valid until August 31, 2026.
I tried to use my new ORCA card, but it didn’t work. What should I do?
If you have any issues using your card, please contact us at info@FlipYourTrip.org.
Is this an ORCA Reduced Fare card?
No. This is a regular adult fare ORCA card loaded with an unlimited pass valid until August 31, 2026. If you would like to sign up for an ORCA Reduced Fare card, please visit the website here to apply: Apply for a Reduced Fare ORCA Card.
Can I transfer the unlimited pass on my new ORCA card to an existing card?
No; you cannot transfer this unlimited pass to another card.
Can I transfer funds from an existing ORCA card to my new card?
You cannot transfer funds or a different pass from another ORCA card to this one. However, you may load your new card with e-purse funds at an ORCA vending machine, online, or at the ORCA customer service counter, using cash or a debit or credit card. Visit myorca.com/reload-my-card for more information.
What should I do if my card was lost or stolen?
Please report lost or stolen cards to info@FlipYourTrip.org so we can deactivate the card. Unfortunately, we typically cannot issue a replacement card to Flip Your Trip participants.
Can I use my new ORCA card on the Water Taxi or ferry?
Your unlimited pass on your new ORCA card will work on King County Water Taxi, Kitsap Transit Foot Ferry, and Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry. However, it will not work on Washington State Ferry; you would need to load e-purse funds to your card to pay for Washington State Ferry rides.
What happens after August 31?
Starting September 1, your new ORCA card will no longer offer unlimited rides on transit. But good news, you can still load money onto the card to continue using it! The card is yours to use as you wish; you can add e-purse funds, purchase day passes, opt for a monthly pass or more. Visit myorca.com/en/reload-my-card/ for more information. We hope you enjoy the card and will keep on flipping your trips!
